  • How my Mom fights sexism

My Mom is a chemical engineer and works in a male dominated field. Going through college she had to face sexism. For example, in one of her engineering courses the professor said, “this is what female engineers are good for” and a picture of a scantily clad female with a ruler in her pocket flashed during the presentation.

Now recently there was March Madness. It’s a basketball thing and in the March Madness brackets or whatever you pick what team is going to win.

Every year my Mom’s company has a contest to see who can get the most picks correct. My Mom won. She beat my Dad too! (My family is a basketball oriented family. Grandpa, Dad, and my brother played basketball. My brother played college basketball even)

A male coworker (WHO LOST) suggested that maybe next year there should be a rule that spouses weren’t allowed to do each others picks, implying that my Mom cheated and let my Dad pick for her. Cause women don’t know basketball, lulz, right??

OH MY MOM WAS PISSED. So she sent out this email and I thought it was funny:

It was brought to my attention that there will be a new rule for the basketball picks next year. Spouses are not allowed to make your picks for you. Now, the only logical conclusion I can come to from that is he believes he lost because he let his wife make his picks, as I am sure the male ego cannot be that big.

I am in total agreement with this rule. To demonstrate why I agree, I have attached a copy of my spouses picks to show, if I too had let my spouse make my picks, I would have lost also.

If I should happen to win (I understand someone’s picks have not yet been counted), to be gracious, maybe I will share some of the morels I found last night.

In the e-mail she attached a copy of my Dad’s picks. (which were a lot different than hers) lawl
